Will US Benz Dealers Get Natural Gas Cars?

luxury vehiclesWith all of the various alternative fuels that engineers are working on for cars, you may have forgotten about natural gas as a way to power vehicles. But your Princeton, NJ area Mercedes-Benz dealers may get some cars powered by natural gas sometime in the future.

Recently, Mercedes-Benz introduced a B-Class model that runs on compressed natural gas. It was demonstrated at the Washington Auto Show earlier this month. The general manager of regulatory affairs at Daimler’s Washington office – William Craven – confirmed that the company is indeed interested in manufacturing a natural gas-powered car to sell in the United States market. He and other industry leaders agree that there are many alternatives to the current fuel-powered vehicles and the automakers should explore as many options as possible.

Natural gas was once a valid alternative to today’s petroleum-fueled cars. The United States has an ample supply of natural gas and it is also “one of the cleanest burning fuels around.” And it’s not an unheard of alternative, either. There are many cars manufactured that run on natural gas, but they are typically sold to corporations that already have natural gas refueling stations.

Who knows? Maybe you, too, will be able to purchase a natural gas car at your local Benz dealers before long.
