A new piece of software for your mobile device helps to prevent drivers from making phone calls or texting while driving. The technology, which was created by a Canadian company, was recently unveiled and your Pennsylvania auto dealers want you to know about it.
The software is dubbed DriveAssist and it was created by Aegis Mobility. The company describes it as “advanced call management technology” and it works as a type of “virtual secretary.” If you have your mobile device with you in a moving car, the software intercepts any incoming calls or texts and lets the person know that you are not available. The caller can either leave a message or call back later. In addition, the software may also tell the caller where the person is through GPS technology.
The software detects when a user is moving at speeds typical of automobile speeds. It’s meant to keep drivers safe by not distracting them with phone calls or texts. However, callers can bypass the technology by indicating the call or text is an emergency.
Currently, the company that created the software is working with cell phone carriers to make the service available as a subscription-based service. With this technology, you can drive away from your local Mercedes-Benz dealer without worrying about your phone ringing and distracting your when you need to concentrate on the road in front of you.
