The S-Class models at your local Benz dealers are going to get a new technology that will make your car experience even more exciting: a split-screen navigation and entertainment system.
Earlier this month, officials at Mercedes-Benz announced that the automaker was going to introduce this new technology in the summer of 2009. The new split-screen system is going to allow the passenger and driver to use the same screen for different purposes at the same time. The driver can use half of the screen for navigating the streets, for instance, while the passenger watches Steve McQueen’s “Bullitt” on the other half of the screen.
With help from Bosch auto suppliers, Mercedes-Benz developed this 8-inch monitor. “A filter masking the display divides this mixed image in such a way that depending on the seating position, only the pixels making up one or the other image can be seen,” said officials with MB. The device also supplies headphones for the passenger to minimize the distraction to the driver.
Of course, this is likely going to be an add-on option rather than a standard feature for right now. Mercedes has not released any specifics about the pricing for the option just yet, though. Visit your Princeton, NJ area Mercedes-Benz dealer today to find out more about this exciting feature and how you can get one when they come out.
