Mercedes Dealers Offer the President a History Lesson

mb dealersYour Mercedes dealers would like to take a good-natured jab at President Barack Obama based on a statement he made in his speech on Tuesday night. President Obama made the following statement: “The country that invented the automobile cannot walk away from it.” He said this while talking about saving Detroit, but the automobile was not invented in the United States as he implies.

According to the Library of Congress, the first automobile was invented by Karl Benz in Germany. His three-wheeled, gas-powered vehicle was driving around the streets of Germany in 1885. That’s about an entire decade before George Baldwin Selden of the United States received a patent for his gas-powered carriage which never even got manufactured.

So to set the record straight, the predecessor to the Mercedes-Benz Corporation is credited with inventing the automobile according to our own Library of Congress. But I’m sure it was a minor slip from President Obama. However, that doesn’t have to stop you from visiting your Princeton, NJ area Mercedes-Benz dealer to find the latest innovations in the auto industry. Take one of the luxury vehicles for a drive and you’ll know why Mercedes-Benz has always been a leader in its field.

Lol. It was an honest mistake made by Pres. Obama, I’m sure he didn’t mean any harm and I’m also sure he wasn’t trying to humiliate himself. And besides, America is known to have made some of the best cars in history. As you said, it’s just a minor slip. ;)
