This story was reported in Fort Collins, Colorado, but your PA dealers want you to look out for these types of scams regardless of where you live.
Two young men in Fort Collins scammed several senior citizens into paying him for car repairs that they never performed. All of the victims so far were at least 80 years old and they have scammed them for thousands of dollars. One time, the thugs were able to scam about $2,500 out of one elderly person. The incident with the lowest was reported at about $1,600. In each incident, however, the young men approached the older person about a “problem he noticed” on their car. One person would then offer to fix it while the other took the elderly person to the ATM.
In one incident, the two men approached a lady in a Home Depot parking lot. They told her that her back wheel was wobbly and they would fix it for a fee. “I don’t know anything about the wheels on a car, so I said ‘OK, I don’t know,” said the elderly lady who declined to give her name. “I knew when I was driving off, I’d been taken. I felt violated.”
If this happens to you, don’t fall for it. Instead, if you think there is something wrong with your car, take it to a trusted mechanic at your local Buick dealer. They will be happy to fix the problem at a fair and honest price.
