Your PA dealers want to send a special salute to the forgotten heroes of car maintenance: The auto mechanic. These days, there are a lot of negative things said about these “doctors of the engine.” But in all reality, auto mechanics are the lifeblood of vehicle maintenance and repairs. Without them, we’d simply have to junk our cars every time something went wrong with them.
An article in a local Philadelphia publication praised auto mechanics on Labor Day. It was an homage to the people who fix our cars. And while auto manufacturing jobs are shipped overseas and outsourced to cheaper places, the mechanic’s job is too important and immediate to ever leave the United States. As such, they join the ranks of nurses, day car personnel, emergency workers and others who will always be needed right here in our hometowns.
The article goes on to say, however, that mechanics are different. They “toil in the off-limits back shops, where grease and gasoline permeate their skin, engine blades bloody their fingers, and temperatures are often stifling.” Combined with a slew of customers who think they are getting ripped off every time they take their car in for service and mechanics may have one of the toughest jobs in the United States.
So the next time you’re getting an oil change or other service at you local Buick dealer or PA dealers, give thanks to the guy working on your car. It’s a thankless job, but somebody has to do it.
