On Monday, we wrote about the new headlight system available on some new models at your local Benz dealers. But that isn’t the only thing that engineers with this luxury automaker are working on lately.
For the 2010 E-Class models at your Princeton, NJ area Mercedes-Benz dealers, the automaker has added a Lane Departure Warning System. Many other automakers are working on similar systems, but the one on the MB E-Class is different. Instead of just having a small beeping noise when veering into another lane, the steering wheel actually vibrates to get your attention better.
The new system works through a small camera mounted in the rearview mirror. The camera reads the lane markings on the roads and it monitors the driver’s actions. It then takes this data and analyzes it in order to determine if the car is slowly veering over mistakenly or if it’s a quick motion that the driver has intended to do. If the system determines that the driver has intended to go into the next lane, it sends no warning.
