Pennsylvania Auto Dealers Discuss MB Buyouts

We know that Alabama is a long way from your Pennsylvania auto dealers, but the new buyout announcement certainly affects dealers across the nation.

The Mercedes-Benz factory in Alabama has been open for more than 10 years. Recently, the automaker offered more than 4,000 workers an attractive buyout package for the first time in the history of the plant. The company hopes to know the decisions of most of these workers by the end of the year.

Officials at Mercedes-Benz haven’t released any details about the number of employees who may or may not take the buyout. They also haven’t said anything what would happen if only a few employees took the buyout.

The announcement of the buyout comes on the heels of a shrinking demand for vehicles, but Mercedes-Benz isn’t the only car company suffering from a lowered demand during these tough economic times. The Alabama facility is responsible for manufacturing the M-Class, R-Class and GL-Class models for the automaker.

In addition to this, the automaker is halting production at a plant in Germany beginning in December and shortening the work week for others.

What does this mean for you? With a lower demand for vehicles, you could be in a better position to negotiate a great deal on the car of your dreams at your local Mercedes-Benz dealer near Princeton, NJ. Visit one today and see what you can work out.

Mercedes-Benz Dealers Warn about GPS Laws

Your Mercedes-Benz dealers want to bring your attention to some new legislation that has passed in California regarding GPS units.

Currently, Minnesota and California are the only two states that have laws about mounting GPS units on your windshield. Both states have prohibited this because they interfere with the driver’s line of sight. However, in a surprising twist in California, a state where it’s currently illegal to talk on your cell phone while driving a state that has some of the strictest seatbelt laws I’ve ever seen, is being more lenient on the GPS unit placement law.

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger helped change the law which goes into effect on January 1, 2009. Although lenient, the new law requires that drivers mount their GPS units either in the lower left corner of the windshield or the lower right corner of their windshield. This places the unit out of the driver’s line of site while still in a convenient place.

Oh yeah…the governator also vetoed a bill that would have allowed drivers to have their pet sitting in their lap while they are driving. It seems that the legislators in California don’t have enough to do, doesn’t it?

Your Mercedes-Benz dealer near Flemington, NJ only brings this to your attention because California tends to set the stage for other laws across the nation. So don’t get too comfortable with your GPS unit in the middle of your windshield because the law is coming for you next!
