Your Mercedes-Benz dealers want to bring your attention to some new legislation that has passed in California regarding GPS units.
Currently, Minnesota and California are the only two states that have laws about mounting GPS units on your windshield. Both states have prohibited this because they interfere with the driver’s line of sight. However, in a surprising twist in California, a state where it’s currently illegal to talk on your cell phone while driving a state that has some of the strictest seatbelt laws I’ve ever seen, is being more lenient on the GPS unit placement law.
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger helped change the law which goes into effect on January 1, 2009. Although lenient, the new law requires that drivers mount their GPS units either in the lower left corner of the windshield or the lower right corner of their windshield. This places the unit out of the driver’s line of site while still in a convenient place.
Oh yeah…the governator also vetoed a bill that would have allowed drivers to have their pet sitting in their lap while they are driving. It seems that the legislators in California don’t have enough to do, doesn’t it?
Your Mercedes-Benz dealer near Flemington, NJ only brings this to your attention because California tends to set the stage for other laws across the nation. So don’t get too comfortable with your GPS unit in the middle of your windshield because the law is coming for you next!
