Soon after, he began creating complete cars with one of these engines installed. By 1902, he spent all of the money he acquired from selling the plumbing business and had nothing to show for it besides a single car.

The Streets Department is installing the first of more than 1,000 new street lights throughout Philadelphia’s high-crime areas to help deter criminals and thieves from their typical outlaw activities when the sun goes down.

PA dealers are happy about the new lights because they will help keep vandals out of the car lots when everybody has gone home for the night.

In the past month, more than 80 new lights have gone up in two of the most crime-ridden districts. The project that includes more than 1,000 of these lights won’t be completed until next summer.

In addition to fighting crime, the City Managing Director also hopes the new lights will bring more people outdoors at night. By shedding light on some of the neighborhoods, residents may feel more secure on their own front porches than they do now.

The former employee of WesDyne International used a company credit card to purchase a number of items. She paid for vacations on the card, bought a bunch of jewelry, paid for home improvements and even purchased a Mercedes-Benz from one of the many area Pennsylvania auto dealers.

Altogether, she created more than 1,700 fraudulent expense invoices to cover her tracks.

The woman’s attorney issued the defense that she “couldn’t help herself.” The only problem was that she didn’t do any of the spending on her personal credit cards. She saved it all for her company card. That showed she had control and knew exactly what she was doing. As a result, the judge ordered her to 33 months in prison.

The next time you visit one of your local Buick auto dealers, take a moment to reflect on the very first sitdown strike in Flint, Michigan more than five decades ago. Also known as Buick City and Vehicle City, Flint was the hub in which today’s biggest automakers. And although the UAW won strikes in smaller individual plants, the Flint Sitdown Strike was a first in that it helped garner a contract with General Motors, the world’s largest automaker at the time.

The plants that the UAW targeted for the Flint strike supplied Buick parts as well as parts for other GM brands. That’s exactly why the UAW targeted these particular plants. The union wanted to cripple the auto industry for a short time to show the major car corporations just how important the workers were to the manufacturing aspect.
